It’s no secret that Gamestop is struggling. Sales have been down due to the rise of digital downloads. They’ve introduced new things such as allowing customers to return games within 48hrs of the game’s launch, but it just hasn’t been enough. The kids aren’t hanging out at Gamestop after school. This led to a 63% profit dip last quarter alone!
So what’s their solution? Bring a YMCA vibe to the store. Our plug claims that Gamestop has partnered with R/GA to redesign stores to put more emphasis on community. They’re looking to embrace the culture more. They want to turn Gamestop into a destination for gamers to hang out. I’ve read they want to host local tournaments and other events to keep people in the store. The company released this statement.
“The partnership with R/GA’s Austin and Chicago teams is part of GameStop’s broader business transformation strategy to evolve its efforts in cultivating innovative customer-centric opportunities to bring video game culture to life in every neighborhood.
GameStop’s renewed customer-first focus stems from qualitative and quantitative research led by GameStop and R/GA that identified four major motivations gaming fans have for playing video games – immersion, achievement, creativity, and community.”
I’m curious to see if they’re going to take the Gaming Cafe route. Those cafes are huge in Asian countries. Only time will tell. For now, let us know what you think about the changes coming to Gamestop in the comments below.
