SEGA announced on their Twitter account that there will be a new Mega Drive Mini (Genesis in the USA), that will be released later in the year in Japan.
The specifics haven’t been clarified as of yet, but there was a photo of the device that was posted on the SEGA twitter account as well along with close up images.
It’s clear that SEGA has noticed the overwhelming success that the NES Classic and the SNES Classic mini has and there would have to be some sort of different branding when it makes it’s way to North America.
AT Games made their version of the retro console, which included 85 games but there were so many notable titles that were missing and it had Game Gear games, Master System as well as generic games that no one ever heard of so that version didn’t take off like the NES Classic and the SNES Classic mini.
Hopefully this version will stay true to form and take off like the NES versions did without the lack of units available to those who don’t have time to camp out at the stores in the early morning hoping to get their hands on one.
