The Coronavirus has every sensible human being on edge. People are being laid off or forced to work from home. Naturally, internet usage has spiked across the globe because of it. YouTube has noticed this spike and taking precautions to make sure everyone can still access their platform. According to our informant, YouTube plans to default everyone’s video player to 480p in April.
In a statement to the public, Google said: “we continue to work closely with governments and network operators around the globe to do our part to minimize stress on the system during this unprecedented situation.”
Don’t panic though. 4K and 1080p options will still be available for those who can handle it. The video player will just default to 480p. If you click the little gear on the right of the video player you will have the option to improve your visuals.
