June 6th was a major day for video games (funny how all of the major bombs are coming before E3). Along with Bungie announcing the new plans with Destiny 2 post-Activision, including the AAA title going to Google Stadia, Google themselves dropped some more news about their platform coming in November of this yeaz.
One of the most important questions consumers had after the initial announcement in March was, How much is this service going to cost? Well, Google gave us the news immediately announcing that the service will cost $10/month for Google Stadia Pro. This service will allow you to play games at up to 4K resolution if your ISP can handle it. There is also a Founder’s Edition for $129 which includes a Chromecast Ultra, a Stadia Controller, first dibs on a Stadia name, Destiny 2 free edition, 3 months of Stadia Pro, and a buddy pass for a friend to also try out Stadia Pro. If you don’t want to pay for a service, you can get the Stadia Base Edition for free next year which will allow you to play up to 1080p resolution but does not include any free games or exclusive discounts.
Another important question was about the internet speeds needed to play games on Stadia. So far Google says that you need:
- 10 mbps to play at 720p
- 20 mbps to play at 1080p
- 35 mbps to play at 4K
There are also a ton of AAA games that were shown at the Stadia conference including:
- Wolfenstein: Youngblood
- Rage 2
- Samurai Shodown
- Ghost Recon Breakpoint
- Mortal Kombat 11
- Darksiders Genesis
- Borderlands 3
- NBA 2K20
- and much more…
So far it looks like the Google Stadia is a very dope platform that I’m willing to give a try. The $10 price point had me sold, and it’s not a big deal if it doesn’t end up not being what I envision.
