Nintendo is out here killing it when it comes to the handheld market. They can claim the Switch isn’t a handheld all they want, but the reality is you can take it on the go. The reality is they just released the Switch lite further improving the platform’s portability. It’s only a matter of time before Nintendo ghosts their 3DS like an ex-significant other.

But what about everyone else? Microsoft has never produced a handheld and Sony has been quiet on the handheld front. Once upon a time Sony was a contender for the number one spot. The PSP was ahead of its time. I far more enjoyed that platform over the DS in that era. The Vita could have been great if it had triggers in the back instead of that touchpad and better game support.

So what’s the future looking like for Sony handhelds? Grim. According to our informant, the President of Sony recently conducted an interview with Game Informer. In it, they did a look back on the 25 years of Playstation history. He then confirmed there were no plans for a Vita sequel. “PlayStation Vita was brilliant in many ways, and the actual gaming experience was great, but clearly it’s a business that we’re no longer in now.”
