Just recently, news broke that Marvel and Fox brokered a deal to allow Fox to develop two new television shows based on X-Men properties. This is important because Fox only owned the film rights to the properties, not the television rights. This deal took a lot of negotiating and is only precedented by Marvel’s deal with Sony to be able to use Spider-Man in Marvel films.
Now, Den of Geek is reporting that Marvel only is only allowing Fox to do this because Fox is giving Marvel (deep breaths everyone) the Fantastic Four in return. Not only will Marvel receive its first family, but also popular characters like Doctor Doom, Galactus, and the Silver Surfer.
Den of Geek’s anonymous source told the site that a Fantastic Four film is scheduled for 2020. If you remember, just last week Marvel changed up its schedule of future films and announced three untitled films for 2020.
This move isn’t too surprising as Fox has had little success developing on-screen adaptations of the Fantastic Four and the studio’s bread and butter has been the X-Men franchise.
However, don’t get too excited. Shortly after Den of Geek’s report went live, they updated it saying that “20th Century Fox states that our source’s suggestion that Fox had reached some kind of deal with Marvel is ‘completely untrue.’ A denial has also come from Marvel.”
Studios have been wishy-washy before when it comes to matters like this, and it’s very likely that Fox and Marvel want to squash these rumors as the deal is not yet complete, or maybe Den of Geek just published a story based on testimony from an uncredible source.
As it stands now, take this with a Galactus-sized grain of salt and stay tuned to GamingIlluminaughty.com for future information as it comes out.
