The EA Star Wars blog posted today details about a new multiplayer game mode for Star Wars Battlefront titled Drop Zone, which was mentioned in last week’s announcement about the upcoming beta for the game.
Drop Zone is described as a “King of the Hill”-style game mode with two teams of eight battling to control pods that drop from the atmosphere. If the teams are struggling to gain control of a pod, then another will be sent down, so now the teams must fight to capture them both at the same time. After pods are captured, and while another pod is up for grabs, the pod will open up and reveal a Power Pickup.
Lead Level Designer Dennis Brännvall had this to say about the game mode: “This goes hand in hand with our design philosophy behind many of the game modes in Star Wars Battlefront. We’re promoting the idea of a fast, action-packed game where you need to be mobile and think on your feet. Camping doesn’t really pay off.”
To win, your team must capture five pods or have more pods captured than the other team after ten minutes.
Maps for Drop Zone will include locations on Endor, Hoth, Sullust, and Tatooine.
You can read more about the game mode in the blog post, including tips and strategies on how to excel at it. No gameplay has been shown of Drop Zone; only the screenshot above has been released.
