NetherRealm Studios just revealed their newest member of the Injustice 2 roster and he goes by the name of Doctor Fate. He’s new to the series and unless you’re a DC purist, you probably won’t even know who Fate is. He isn’t nearly as know or popular as the front line DC Comics superheroes but Doctor Fate has been around since the 1940’s.
Marvel and DC has been known to copy each others heroes and this one is no different, he’s basically DC’s version of Doctor Strange. The head of NetherRealm studio Ed Boon said that he could easily qualify as one of the more “obscure characters.”
Injustice 2 already has a pretty diverse lineup and designer John Edwards says that this will be “the largest roster we’ve ever done.” He also said says “We like to have character that have a lot of variety.” Not having everyone play like Superman and Batman (the two most popular characters in the game) is a good thing and from what is known, Doctor Fate is the most powerful sorcerer in the DC universe so his move set should bring something new to the table.
It’s uncertain as of yet as to how big a roll Fate will have in the injustice 2 story but Edwards did make it known that “He is one of the more complex character, mechanically so.” From looking at the gameplay, He doesn’t have the best close quarter combat like Batman or Atrocitus but his ranged attacks is where he shines. He will remind you of Ermac from Mortal Kombat X.
I personally like the idea of switching out fighters from the previous game and interested in seeing if more obscure characters will dominate the game or if it will be a balance between the top tier DC characters and the lesser-known ones.
