It was well received by anime critics, figure skaters, and anime communities, placing high on many sales and end-of-year charts, while winning 7 out of 14 awards in the inaugural Crunchyroll Anime Awards including “Anime of the Year”. The series has raised discussion concerning its depiction of a same-sex relationship between its protagonists and also raised a brief controversy concerning a similar figure skating-based title to be released in 2017.
