Youtube has been constantly working on ways to remove content they don’t see fit off of their website. One of the ways to make this more consistent was adding AI-assisted video detection and removal, which has eliminated 75% of hateful content without human assistance last month.
Now Youtube will be working on a new system that will place “controversial religious or supremacist content” that doesn’t violate any of Youtube’s policies in a limited state. In simple terms, the video will only allow you to view it and nothing more. It will not be monetized, won’t be recommended, no comments, likes, or be in the suggested video section. This will start being implemented on desktops first, and mobile shortly after.
I feel like Youtube is still focusing on the wrong things in the past few years. We have seen other platforms gain a lot of ground, while Youtube is struggling to find its identity. They want to be the jack of all trades, but cannot master making sure their website works. We will see what else Youtube has down the pipeline, but news like this doesn’t really affect me.
