Marvel Studios has officially unveiled the new cast members for the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok film! The film is off to a great start as Marvel has secured some serious talent for the upcoming trilogy capper, adding several award winning, fan favorite actors to the roster.
According to Marvel Studios, two time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine, Cinderella) will join the film as the villainous Hela, alongside Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park, Independence Day) who will play the eccentric Grandmaster. Fan favorite actor Karl Urban (Star Trek, Judge Dredd) will also joint the ranks as the mighty Skurge, followed by the talented newcomer Tessa Thompson (Creed, Selma) who is set to portray the hero Valkyrie! Mark Ruffalo had also been previously confirmed to reprise his role as Dr. Bruce Banner/Hulk in the film.
Kevin Feige spoke on the casting announcement and had this to say:
“The continuation of the epic Thor franchise will be powerful and unique, and with the additions of Cate, Jeff, Tessa, Karl, and Mark to the cast we have the makings of his most dangerous and heroic adventure yet. The sheer, raw talent each of these actors brings to the screen can’t be quantified. Having any one of them join the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be an honor, and having all of them is incredible.”
Returning cast members include Chris Hemsworth returning as the titular hero Thor, alongside Tom Hiddleston as Thor’s half-brother and arch enemy Loki, Idris Elba as the all seeing Heimdall, Anthony Hopkins as the all powerful Odin and Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif.
