Even though the Call of Duty franchise isn’t what it used to be, the one thing you can pretty much expect annually is a new COD game from Activision. We knew that the 2019 iteration will go back to the “Modern Warfare” storyline, and after you had COD 4: Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, and Modern Warfare 3, what would you call the next game? MODERN WARFARE apparently!
I can confirm this is true, and that it’s hilarious. The first one was “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare” so obviously the fourth one is “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.” Video games are absurd https://t.co/Ghb1m2srC4

Now to the unsuspecting eye, you would think this is simply a reboot since it’s being called Modern Warfare right? Nope, this is simply just a continuation (think Modern Warfare 4 to relieve some confusion). According to marketing practices in various forms of entertainment, franchises after number 3 tend to not do well amongst consumers. Some companies have resorted to “soft rebooting” the franchise with a different name scheme to trick the consumer into thinking it’s a not a continuation (even though it is).
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to be officially revealed next month, but the name of the game is certainly not a joke. Some athletes have apparently already had access to the game last month, so we will see how this game turns out as we get closer to the holiday season.
