There’s been a lot of controversy surrounding Sony and cross-play with their multiplat titles. Microsoft has made it very clear this generation that they are welcoming cross-play between every platform, but Sony hasn’t been wanting to play nice. The most popular game right now Fortnite has made matters worse on this subject when Sony said, “The best experience for Fortnite is on PS4”.

Today, Sony came out and announced they will be holding a Fortnite cross-play beta with ALL of the platforms! This includes the Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, Xbox One, Windows, and Mac. Sony stated that their change of heart comes from “the communities around some games have evolved to the point where cross-platform experiences add significant value to players”. Translation: We realize Fortnite isn’t going anywhere and we can make more money if we allow players from every platform to play with each other.

This is a great day in gaming when we see things like this happening between major hardware video game companies! If this can translate to other multi-platform titles such as NBA 2K and Call of Duty get cross-play as well, this can open up the video game community even further!
