Pokken Tournament, originally released only for Japanese arcades, is officially going to release on the Wii U in Spring of 2016, Nintendo announced. This announcement happened at Boston’s Pokemon World Championships, and also included was the reveal of a new fighter for the game, Pikachu Libre.

Pokken Tournament is a Pokemon fighting game developed by Bandai Namco. It was released on July 16, 2015 for Japanese arcades, much to the dismay of Pokemon fans. The roster includes Blaziken, Charizard, Gardevoir, Gengar, Lucario, Machamp, Pikachu, Pikachu Libre, Suicune, and Weavile.

The trailer above shows gameplay from the arcade version of the game. Pokken Tournament looks gorgeous and the gameplay looks fun and exciting. At this point, the roster only has ten characters (plus support/assist characters), so I hope they add more for the console release. My main bitch Scyther needs to have a roster spot!

So, it finally seems like Nintendo is taking the necessary steps to evolve the franchise. Are you excited for this game? Is it going to make you want a Wii U? What other Pokemon games would you like the see on the Wii U? A MOBA? An RPG?

Stay tuned to for more news on Pokken Tournament.
