EA still won’t give us a new NBA Street game, so I guess today’s announcement will have to do. Saber Interactive revealed today that a sequel is coming summer 2018. According to the press release, online play will be a greater focus this time around. They claim to be focusing on everything the community requested in the previous entry.

“One of the first things we wanted to do with the sequel was to expand online play. We witnessed some epic online games on YouTube and knew that we wanted to bring an even richer experience. We looked at our tournaments that filled the blackboard in our office pitting one developer against another and very soon it became clear that we want to bring this competitive experience and spirit to you.”

Spearheading the sequel is a mode they’re calling Playgrounds Championship. It’s a worldwide online league with several divisions where you’ll have to rack up the wins to be top dog. Expect dedicated servers, faster matching making and more. I just hope they improve the defense game. The offense was fun in the last game, but the defense was a chore. It was impossible to rebound or block shots.
