NBA Live 18 was a step in the right direction. It was a solid foundation for EA Games to build upon. Unfortunately, a step in the right direction isn’t good enough. Not when the competition has a strangle on the basketball gaming community. The main thing most people in the community wanted to see from Live 19 is a Pro-Am mode similar to what NBA 2K does.
People want 5v5 play, customs courts, NBA rules, custom team jerseys, and leaderboards. It increases the competition and gives you more to do. Typical quick play isn’t cutting it in 2018 and beyond. Luckily, EA is listening. They’re bringing SOME of the things the community has clamored for. They announced custom courts a few weeks ago and today we get the announcement of 5v5 play.
According to our informant, this will come in the form of Live Run. Live run was present in 18, but the games only went to 21 points. This was whether you played 3v3 or 5v5. It made for a “meh” experience to be honest. Live run is being rebranded in Live 19. 3v3 will be the quick games. 3v3 now goes to 11 points and you can only score buckets worth one or two points.
5v5 will now include NBA rules. This means 4 quarters, fouls, the whole nine! It’s not exactly what people wanted, but it’s a step in the right direction. The NBA Live demo drops tomorrow, August 24th, 2018, for Xbox One and PS4. It’s time to see what the hype is about. Especially since that NBA Live 19 face scan app is horrible. Let us all pray EA got it together this year.
