It appears that Marvel has set its sight on two time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett for a major role in the upcoming ‘Phase 3’ film Thor: Ragnarok. Previous reports have stated that Marvel has been looking to cast several women as Valkyries, while the character Enchantress is also rumored to be in the film, which is a role Blanchett could indeed end up playing.
The Hollywood Reporter and Variety both have conflicting reports on the actual finality of the deal between the actress and Marvel, the latter of which has yet to release a statement or make a comment of any kind.
Thor: Ragnarok will close out Marvel’s Asgardian trilogy, continuing the cliffhanger we saw in the previous film in which Loki steals the throne from Odin and uses his magic to mimic the latter’s appearance unbeknownst to all, becoming the new king of Asgard in the process. Most of the story will take place in a “distant planet” that is “Not Asgard and not Earth” and it will also feature Bruce Banner aka The Hulk, who has not been seen since the events of Avengers 2.
We’ll keep you updated on any new details as they surface. Thor: Ragnarok debuts in theaters on November 3, 2017.
