NFL.com announced that New England Patriots Tight End Rob Gronkowski has been deemed the cover athlete in the Madden 17 video game. He was the runner up for the cover last year that Odell Beckham Jr. took for last year’s game. Many of us thought that Cam Newton was a shoe in to receive the honors this time around but in my personal opinion his post Super Bowl interview put a bad taste in people’s mouths.
There’s also something to be said about being a cover athlete for the Madden Franchise, some of us know it as the “Madden Curse” which means that several players that has donned the cover ended up injured or never returned to their normal playing for in that season such as Michael Vick(04) Peyton Hillis(’12) Eddie George(01) Shaun Alexander(07) and Marshal Faulk (03) who all at some point ended up injured or played terrible during those season. The most recent cover boy OBJ of the New York Giants had another great season so maybe the Madden Curse isn’t as scary as you think.
Madden 17 is set to release on August 23 on PS3/PS4/XBOX one/Xbox 360
