The Hollywood Reporter announced yesterday that Oscar award winning actor J.K. Simmons (OZ, Whiplash) has secured the role of longtime Batman ally Commissioner Jim Gordon! The character is set to make its debut in the upcoming Justice League Part One film, and while not much is known concerning the film it’s safe to assume the character has known and teamed up with Batman numerous time over the years, considering Batman in the DCU has been fighting crime for a long time.
Simmons is no stranger to playing comic book characters, having garnered fan and critical acclaim for his portrayal of Daily Bugle’s Editor-in-Chief J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man trilogy, even voicing the character in the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series. Simmons has also done voice over work for a few other DC characters in the fan favorite Justice League animated series and most recently Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
Simmons joins the ranks of Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Mamoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash and Amber Heard as Queen Mera, the latter of whom will also appear in the Aquaman solo film in 2018.
Justice League: Part One hits theaters on November 10, 2017.
