I feel like we’re being brought back in time lately, because after Nintendo had such great success with the NES and SNES Classic, Sony quickly followed suit with the PS1 Classic. Atari also decided to make another console themselves with the VCS. Now Intellivision got brought back from the dead to present their new console called Amico.
Their new console falls behind the legacy of their past: The first 16-bit console, the first talking video game, the first sports licensing, and more. The Amico hopes to continue to bring a new innovation to gaming. Here are some of the features:
- HDMI and USB ports
- Interactive onboard lighting
- Wireless Bluetooth controllers w/touchscreen and directional disc
- Wireless charging
- Free downloadable app controllers
As far as the software, Intellivision says ALL of their games will be console exclusive. They will be priced from $2.99-$7.99 and will contain absolutely NO DLC OR IN APP PURCHASES. All of the classic games will be remade, as well as Atari classics and iMagic classics. On top of that, there will be 20 + brand new games at launch.
These are some very big claims here for a “new” console. How will the games look remastered? Will these games appeal to a newer generation that is so used to games with 3D graphics? All of these questions I hope can be answered soon. The console will cost $149-$179 and is set to drop on October 10th, 2020.
