The latest rumor to come out of the ever-churning mill is that Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk/Bruce Banner will appear in Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok, due in theaters on November 3, 2017.
This rumor comes via Joblo‘s “inside sources.” The website also reports that Tom Hiddleston and Jamie Alexander will return as Loki and Lady Sif, respectively. Supposedly, the third solo Thor film will take place on a “distant planet,” one that is “not Asgard and not Earth” and will have the Hulk teaming up with Thor as they face the Norse Apocalypse.
Marvel may not be able to make a solo Hulk as the distribution rights to the character are owned by Universal, so this could be a way of Marvel incorporating a fan-favorite character into Marvel Cinematic Universe films outside of the Avengers team-up movies. Hulk was planned for next year’s Captain America: Civil War, but was cut.
Thor: Ragnarok was hinted at in May’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. You can watch a deleted scene from that film that gives more context to the weird “watch Chris Hemsworth take a bath” scene.
Marvel has yet to confirm or deny this report, and don’t expect the studio to for a while.
