Captain Marvel isn’t scheduled to make her film debut until 2019, however, the character has been a hot topic ever since her solo film was announced, even dating back to last year prior to the release of Marvel’s box office hit Avengers: Age of Ultron when the character was almost inserted as a cameo in the film before Joss Whedon decided against it.
Variety has come through with some interesting news, as according to the outlet Marvel may have finally found their ideal actress to portray the character. The report states that Marvel is in early talks with Academy Award Winner Brie Larson (Room, Scott Pilgrim vs The World) and that the actress is by far the frontrunner for the role.
Captain America himself Chris Evans was at Wizard Wold Philadelphia this past Sunday and when asked about the prospect of Larson playing the character of Captain Marvel, the actor had nothing but high praise for the actress.
“I just heard about that. I really hope that happens.” while adding “I love Brie Larson. We did a movie together back in ’09, ‘Scott Pilgrim vs The World. I cannot say enough about Brie Larson. I think she’s phenomenal.”
Nothing is really known about what direction Marvel will be taking the character aside from the fact that Marvel has chosen to go with the Carol Danvers version of the character. Captain Marvel will hit theaters on March 8, 2019.
