Disney has announced today that a new Star Wars Anthology film is in development centered around Han Solo, the infamous smuggler portrayed by Harrison Ford in the original Star Wars movies. It will be directed by directing duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who have directed The Lego Movie and the recent Jump Street movies together.
The script will be written by Lawrence Kasden (writer of The Empire Strikes Back, The Return of the Jedi, and Raiders of the Lost Ark) and his son Jon. The story will focus on “how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley.”
The film is expected to release May 25, 2018 and will be the second Star Wars Anthology film after Rogue One. Anthology films are standalone Star Wars movies.
A month ago a rumor surfaced that an Anthology film would be made centered on the feud between Han Solo and bounty hunter Boba Fett, but with this announcement, those plans may have been scrapped. Details are scarce on this upcoming Han Solo movie.
