Haikyuu! The ever popular Production I.G sports anime that premiered in 2014 has just announced its third season. There has been a lot of skepticism from fans if the series would even have a third season in 2016, or would it be delayed until 2017. The first two seasons of Haikyuu! Which are at a combined length of 50 episodes cover roughly 150 chapters in the manga, with the manga still currently ongoing at around 220 chapters. This had most fans fearing that the anime is progressing too quickly and that it will soon catch up to the manga.
It seems to counteract this problem Production I.G have taken a page out of J.C Staff’s book. The third season of Haikyuu! will now only be ten episodes long. Like Food Wars S2 being only 13 episodes long, animation companies have realised that for them to please fans as well as slow down enough so that they don’t catch up to the source material, the best way would be to decrease the number of episodes released.
Like how the second season of Food Wars is only animating the Autumn Elections Arc, Haikyuu! S3 will likely only be animating the final game between Shiratorizawa Academy vs. Karasuno High.
The Promotional Video for the third season was also released along with the character names and positions for the Shiratorizawa players. The second season of Haikyuu! is one of the most highly regarded and praised anime ever to come out, so it will be interesting to see how some fans take the shift from the series being a 25 episode show to now being 10.
