Tephlon is an anime greatly inspired by hip-hop that revolves around a young girl from Queensbridge created by Stephane Metayer. Tephlon Funk was created out of Stephane’s love of anime and hip-hop and as a love letter for the 5 Boroughs of New York. This anime is based off a comic that’s already out. The title “Telephon Funk” means strong and stand out. This is amazing because from the title alone the show gives out positive vibes. I also love how Stephane was able to draw inspiration from his family for characters even if it’s just the design. A positive portrayal of people of color in anime is much needed.

Considering all that’s been said I can get behind an anime starring black characters with a positive message that seems like it’s for the culture.
