While Epic’s Fortnite is not going anywhere anytime soon, I never thought I’d see the day when people would be using the game for illegal means. You do have Youtubers who have been trying to bait others to get more views. You also have other people on twitter who have been trying to scam and bait others for their profiles, but now we’re at a point where people are using the in-game currency called V-Bucks to money launder according to our source.
This news comes after we found out how much money Epic received last year from Fortnite alone. Apparently, there are individuals on the dark web who have been buying V-Bucks in bulk using stolen credit cards. Then they turn around and sell V-Bucks to players which turns it into clean money.
With the ever-growing popularity of Fortnite, it was only a matter of time before others found a way to make a profit. Looks like Epic will need to investigate further and closely monitor the massive amount of money people are spending on V-Bucks, and take the necessary precautions.
