Is this a step in the right direction for all consoles to finally get along and game together no matter what platform they choose? According to our source Epic games showed players on both the PS4 and Xbox One playing the game Fortnite together online.
There hasn’t been any news from Epic Games themselves saying that this was possible. The only platforms so far that had cross-play up until this point was the PS4 and PC with Paragon, but multiple players on Reddit confirmed they were playing Fortnite with players with strange names.
Their findings stemmed from the fact that Xbox Live is the only network that allows you to have spaces in your gamertags. Further digging confirmed that these weren’t PC players, but Xbox One profiles.
To further iterate, cross-play between the PS4 and Xbox One has always been available, but Sony apparently has been the side that has had issues approving this. If this is 100% valid, maybe this can finally start some conversation again between Sony and Microsoft with other games.
Looks like Sony already cut the plug on the cross-play possibilities. Epic said that it was a “bug” that allowed Xbox One and PS4 players to play against each other, and they fixed the issue. Darn how I wish this was done on purpose!
