In I’m not sure if this is good or bad news; Epic Games slow ascent to power continues. The powerhouse that is Fortnite & the rise of the Epic Games Launcher isn’t enough. It would seem they’re attempting to lock down studios now. According to our informant, Epic just acquired Psyonix.

Unfamiliar with their work? Psyonix is the studio behind the wildly popular Rocket League. The terms behind the deal aren’t public, but we do know that the deal is expected to be finished later this month or early June 2019. Psyonix founder Dave Hagewood released this statement

“We’ve been working closely with Epic since the early days of Unreal Tournament, and we’ve survived changing tides as partners, so combining forces makes sense in many ways. The potential of what we can learn from each other and accomplish together makes us truly excited for the future.”

I’d imagine Rocket League will come to the Epic Games launcher eventually, but I would hope this deal implies more. Maybe Psyonix is working on a new game? Only time will tell us that one, but I hope. Rocket League released back in 2015. It’s about that time!
