According to the internet, Millennials ruin everything. So naturally, something needs to be ruined by millennials today for the world to keep to spinning. Today’s victim is every 90’s kid favorite way to communicate with their friends back in the day. AOL Instant Messenger or better known as AIM.
Our plug revealed today that AIM will officially shut down on December 15th, 2017. This is a big deal in internet culture because the program had a crazy run. It’s been around since the early 90’s and made it to 2017. With AOL cutting a lot of staff in 2012 due to financial issues it was only a matter of time before other things fell. When asked about AIM’s run AOL’s VP of communications stated
“AIM tapped into new digital technologies and ignited a cultural shift, but the way in which we communicate with each other has profoundly changed. We are more excited than ever to continue building the next generation of iconic brands and life-changing products for users around the world.”
