In a move that is a complete shocker, Earthbound Beginnings was announced for the Wii U e-shop. Earthbound Beginnings is the original game in the Mother series that never released outside of Japan. Considering the absolute love for the game Earthbound that released on the Super Nintendo, I know this comes as one of the biggest announcements so far in this E3 cycle for many.
Earthbound – known as Mother in Japan – is a very quirky JRPG series known for it’s charm, and very unique atmosphere. It took years for Earthbound on SNES to be released on the Wii U e-shop – even though the outcry was huge. This may signal a change in Nintendo’s attitude in continuing the Mother series, and bringing it to Western audiences.
The first Mother is very basic in comparison to the SNES sequel, but it is amazing that this was ever considered for translation. This was done to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of Mother 1 on the Famicom.
Best part? It will be available today! The game should be live to download around 6pm PST.
