Koei Tecmo surely realizes that the Dead or Alive series isn’t as popular as it once was. The core fighters still play religiously, but how do you get any gamers new to the series to try the game out if they don’t want to spend the full retail? Now we received news that two weeks after the release of Dead or Alive 6, Koei Tecmo released the free-to-play version called Dead or Alive 6: Core Fighters.
Well what’s in this version compared to the full retail? You will be restricted to four characters: Kasumi, Hitomi, Diego, and Bass. You can purchase other characters if you want to. Game modes include Story Mode, DOA Central, DOA Quests, Versus, Time Attack, Arcade, and Training. From what they’re offering in Core Fighters, it looks like damn near the full retail game with just four characters instead of the full roster.
The confusing thing comes from why Koei decided to drop this version after two weeks AND after releasing the $93 Season Pass. I just hope Koei Tecmo knows what they’re doing here and can keep the DOA series going for longtime fans and new fans alike.
