Marvel Studios has released (via Entertainment Weekly) the very first pictures featuring actor Benedict Cumberbatch sporting a very faithful costume adaptation of the Sorcerer Supreme, in promotion for Marvel’s upcoming ‘Phase 3’ Doctor Strange film!
The actor spoke with EW and revealed that the photo shoot was one of the first times the actor actually tried on the costume and he used the opportunity to talk about using that session to practice some of the character’s mannerisms.
“I’m still in the infancy of learning all that. It was like, okay, I’ve got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I’m thinking, there’s going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I’m still working on that. We haven’t played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It’s like anything, you just have to experiment.” he added “There’s going to be crazy s— going on.”
Among the pictures Marvel released we also get a glimpse of Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum, which for those of you unfamiliar with the character is his base of operations, in the same way the Avengers have Avengers Tower. The actor also talked about the all around action experience that the movie is going to be stating:
“There’s all sorts of craziness [in Doctor Strange]. Falling, flying, jumping, fighting, punching, getting punched. It’s really rough and tumble.”
Doctor Strange hits theaters November 4, 2016 and it stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular characters, alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years of Slave) as the villain Baron Mordo and Tilda Swinton (Only Lovers Left Alive) as The Ancient One. Rachel McAdams (Southpaw, The Vow), Michael Stuhlbarg (Pawn Sacrifice), Scott Adkins (The Bourne Ultimatum), Amy Landecker (Transparent) and Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal) all round out the cast in undisclosed roles.
