Aquaman will first make his big screen debut next year in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, however, he won’t be starring in his own film until 2018. The project is still in the very early stages of planning and development and as such there’s no much that’s known about the Sea King’s solo adventure. Fans began speculating earlier this year that Aquaman would be facing off against his longtime nemesis Black Manta, but a recent report from JoBlo seems to discredit that.
According to the outlet Aquaman will be facing off against none other than Ocean Master! The report indicates that Ocean Master will aim to take the throne of Atlantis from Aquaman, which is something that has often happened in the comics between the two characters. For those of you unfamiliar with the character, Ocean Master aka Om Marius/Curry is Aquaman’s half brother, and the two have often clashed due to conflicting ideals which usually revolve around Atlantis and the surface world.
The outlet also spoke on the character of Mera who in the comics is the wife of Aquaman and is the Queen of Atlantis. According to previous reports DC is looking to cast for the Justice League: Part 1 film. The character will apparently be one of the main characters in the film and is described as “a force to be reckoned with” and likened her to Furiosa from the critically acclaimed Mad Max: Fury Road film. They also added that DC and Warner Bros.are looking to cast a non-white actress to portray the character.
Aquaman hits theaters on July 27, 2018.
