Gaming and live action adaption films go together like oil and water. I’m old enough to remember the abomination known as the Super Mario Bros. movie. Since that film, numerous live-action gaming films have come and gone. All of which have flopped critically might I add.

So it’s nice to hear a new Super Mario Bros. film is in the works and it’s not live action. According to our informant, this movie will be an animated film produced by Illumination Entertainment. If you’re unfamiliar¬†with their work I’d say they’re best known for their work on Despicable Me, Minions and Dr. Suess The Lorax.

If you take a look at their credits they’re reputable.¬†They’ll be working closely with Miyamoto on the film. They believe him not being apart of the original live-action adaption is why it was so horrible.

“We are keeping him front and center in the creation of this film. “I’ve rarely seen that happen with any adaptation where the original creative voice is being embraced like we’re embracing Miyamoto. There’s a history in Hollywood of people believing that they know better than the people responsible for a property. I’ve made that mistake before.”

That quote above from Illumination gives me some hope that this could turn out decent. The movie is slated for a 2022 release, so only time will tell. Until then we play the waiting game.
